8 South PCU specializes in the care of acutely and chronically ill adults with complex medical diagnoses. A 25 bed unit physicians and residents leaving room for learning opportunities.

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes for patients of all ages.
• Perform age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, document findings, and develop a plan of care.
• Collaborate with the health care team, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate interdisciplinary care plans; revise plans as patient status changes.
• Accurately administer treatments and medications using automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
• Identify and address patient/family educational needs in a timely manner; incorporate into plan of care and document appropriately.
• Contribute to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities, serve as a patient advocate and provider of psychological, social, and cultural support.
• Use clinical expertise to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances; plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, and resource consumption while improving outcomes.
• Model clinical practice for co‑workers, students, and physicians.
• Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.
• Facilitate resolution of patient and personnel situations; complete manager/director projects within specified time frames.
• Participate in orientation of new employees and provide feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
• Participate on unit, hospital, and system activities to facilitate staff input in decision making.
• Assist with education activities for the unit/department.

• Graduate of a professional nursing school from an accredited college or approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.
• Registered Nurse license in Virginia or eligibility to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
• American Heart Association BLS-HCP required; may need to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, or NRP based on the specific work unit.
• Computer skills required for electronic medical record system (EPIC).
