American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit requiring Neuro PCU experience, VA or compact RN license, and NIHSS certification.
Details- Work on a telemetry PCU specializing in hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patients
- Unit is a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center within a Level I Trauma teaching hospital
- Typical patient ratio is 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
- Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours, 6:45p-7:15a
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Floating required within skillset across PCU, IMC, and stepdown units
- Remote telemetry monitoring with tele-sitting support for increased Patient Care Tech coverage
- EPIC charting experience required
- Active RN license (Virginia State or Compact) required, with exceptions for pending single-state licenses from non-compact states
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Neuro PCU experience required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience, preferably at a hospital with 250+ beds
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience managing cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, Ketamine) without titration
- Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE protocols
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Provide direct care to stroke, neuro, and hospitalist medicine patients in a fast-paced telemetry environment
- First-time travelers may be considered if they have strong experience at a similar facility, though prior travel experience is preferred
- Local candidates may be accepted depending on radius from the facility
- Previous employees must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
- Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period
- All RTO requests must be submitted upfront prior to consideration
