Job Overview

Virginia Tech (VT) seeks to recruit an innovative researcher to its new Patient Research Center (PRC) at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC (FBRI - (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) for a tenured or tenure‑track faculty position at the associate or full professor level. The PRC initiative has received substantial funding support to launch this major exciting new program.

The position will be located at the FBRI on Virginia Tech’s health sciences and technology campus in Roanoke, Virginia, immediately adjacent to the VTC School of Medicine and the Carilion Clinic and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. There will be considerable opportunities to collaborate with clinical partners. In addition to the position at the FBRI, the faculty member will also have a tenured or tenure‑track appointment in a VT department from among multiple colleges.

The primary responsibility for the position is to lead a strong extramurally funded leading‑edge research program in cardiovascular science. The program will include a human patient–based clinical research component and may also include a basic laboratory‑based research component. The faculty member will also perform graduate teaching and mentor research projects of graduate, medical, and undergraduate students, and collaborate with the FBRI’s clinical partners.

Required Qualifications:

• Earned a Ph.D. degree and an additional advanced degree such as M.D., Pharm.
  
  D., or D.V.M.
• Active extramurally funded research program that includes a human patient–based clinical research component and may also include a basic laboratory‑based research component.

Preferred qualifications include research that is complementary to the work of FBRI faculty in the Center for Vascular and Heart Research and a demonstrated ability to contribute to major collaborative program funding.

The FBRI currently includes over 300,000 square feet of laboratory, core facilities, and office space. It houses multiple human subject research‑dedicated 3.0 T MRIs, high‑field MR guided PET, MR‑guided focused ultrasound for animal research, optically pumped magnetometers (OPM‑MEG), cellular/molecular imaging facilities, transcriptomics and genomics analysis, two human whole‑room calorimeters, a DEXA facility, and a metabolic kitchen.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
