Overview
The Assistant Sales Manager is responsible for supporting the Store Sales Manager with driving sales, execution of operation functions, and ensuring excellent customer service is delivered. This position is non-exempt and paid at an hourly rate. Shared responsibilities apply outside of the assigned department.
Responsibilities- Sales & Financial Performance
- Assist Store Sales Manager in achieving sales goals and objectives
- Perform Manager on Duty (MOD) shifts as scheduled to monitor and motivate the team
- Participate in sales-driving activities (customer engagement, sales contests, product knowledge learning, etc.)
- Monitor store labor on a daily and weekly basis, adjusting to meet plan or business needs
- Remain informed of KPIs for the store and understand how each KPI impacts the business daily/weekly
- Customer Service
- Provide exceptional customer service by engaging with customers, applying product knowledge, answering inquiries, and resolving issues
- Train and coach the team to offer the expected level of customer service to drive sales
- Handle customer complaints professionally, resolving them promptly and satisfactorily
- Appropriately and timely follow up on customer concerns and inquiries
- Team Leadership
- Assist in holding the team accountable for performance expectations during MOD shifts
- Motivate and inspire the team to achieve sales targets, deliver excellent customer service, and drive company initiatives
- Adjust team priorities to meet goals and store initiatives
- Offer on-the-spot coaching to team members to correct actions or provide training
- Communicate employee concerns to the appropriate leadership in a timely manner
- Talent Management
- Participate in store staffing through recruiting and interviewing
- Perform orientation and training for new team members as needed
- Be well versed in company expectations for performance management and utilize resources as needed
- Coach and address associate performance through formalized processes
- Participate in year-end employee review processes as needed
- Product Knowledge & Visual Merchandising
- Stay updated on key sales drivers (top styles, hot buys, new product, etc.) and know where to find resources for product knowledge to train and lead the team
- Train team members on merchandise features and selling techniques
- Ensure merchandise is displayed according to visual merchandising standards and company guidelines
- Departments of Responsibilities
- Clear understanding and strong execution of Shared Responsibilities in conjunction with the assigned department
- Willingness and flexibility to perform or change departments of responsibilities as dictated by business needs or personal development
- General Leadership Responsibilities
- Drive workplace safety with the team, including safe working practices, knowledge of emergency procedures, prompt response and reporting to accidents, and adherence to company policies regarding scams
- Perform opening/closing procedures, accurate cash and safe counts, ensure nightly deposits are correct, secure building outside of working hours, prep team tasks, communication, and zoning as necessary, and ensure store is recovered nightly
- Drive compliance with local, state, and federal laws, including minor compliance, OSHA safety standards, timekeeping, and related requirements
- 2+ years of previous leadership experience, preferably in a retail setting
- Shown motivation and delegation skills with a proven ability to hold team members accountable
- Confident, proactive, and willing to take on workplace challenges
- Ability to multi-task and adapt priorities to keep the team focused on business needs
- Strong verbal communication and ability to convey information clearly and effectively
- Quick decision-making and problem-solving abilities, especially in customer service
- Ability to read key reporting and learn the company POS system with standard training
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, and stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift/carry materials up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations
