We are a faith based, equal opportunity employer. Sales Associates serve our thrift stores by assisting customers with their overall shopping experience. Includes providing a clean, safe environment for them to shop; displaying merchandise so it is easy to find; supporting the checkout process and answer customer questions in person/by phone. In-store training will be provided.

Hours of availability:
Part-Time with a flexible schedule between 9am – 6:30pm;
Monday – Saturday;

Compensation: $15.00/hour (non-exempt/hourly)

Successful qualifications:
Possess a sincere love of Christ and maintain a Christian walk that is evident of that love. Possess a genuine interest in the safety and well-being of our guests and team members. Ability to engage with customers, guests, volunteers and team members. A basic knowledge of general sales and merchandising processes. Willingness to exceed "Mission standard" expectations. Basic computer and math skills.

Strong work ethic & commitment; work as scheduled- include holidays/weekends as assigned. Strong listening and communication skills to execute instructions and exhibit professionalism. Strong organizational skills to assist with multi-tasking daily assignments and special projects.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Stock items on the sales floor from the storage room. Process donations as needed, steam clothing. Checkout processes to include use of cash register, computer, and basic math skills. Assist customers throughout the store; answer questions, explain processes. Answer phone calls to assist customers; transfer and/or take a message as requested. Basic housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe environment.

All Rescue Mission of Roanoke team members may be asked to complete other duties as assigned by the leadership/management. Expectation is to complete these assignments as requested.

Physical demands essential to performing the job duties of this position (not an all-inclusive list). Prolonged periods of physical activity (80%) sitting and/or standing. Prolonged periods of standing, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling objects up to 30 pounds. Frequent computer use; computer screen exposure. Lift up to 50 pounds; not typically repetitive. Temperatures may vary depending on activity/events; indoor/outdoor exposure. Noise levels may vary depending on activity/event and/or location.

Consistently
- Communicating with others to exchange information; verbally and/or electronically. Frequent

Since 1948, the Rescue Mission has continued a tradition of comprehensive care to those in crisis in our community. The homeless, the hungry, the chemically addicted, the impoverished and the hopeless have all found a warm welcome at the Rescue Mission. Men, women and children have found a safe place and compassionate friends in their darkest moments. The Rescue Mission is open 24 hours/day and 365 days/year and provides food, clothing, shelter, an on-site clinic, Recovery Program, case management, and aftercare services.

In addition, the Rescue Mission operates a Donation and Recycling Center, 2nd Helpings – Gallery and Shop, Thrift 460, and has an online store presence. All proceeds from sales benefit the programs of the Rescue Mission.
