The Gift Shop Representative assists with displaying and selling merchandise, operating the cash register, providing general retail support and customer service, handling low‑scale product buying, daily stocking, maintaining regular business hours, and back‑office procedures such as POS entry, purchase orders, and merchandise receiving. The role also practices the Serve‑U philosophy.
Responsibilities- Practice good salesmanship to upsell products while modeling SERVE‑U behavior.
- Assist with daily operations, including staffing the shop in the absence of volunteers.
- Assist in training new staff and volunteers; instruct volunteers on sales and customer service skills; maintain a communication notebook.
- Coordinate with the Gift Shop Lead for data entry on the Point of Sale system, including item entry and merchandise receiving.
- Coordinate with staff to develop and oversee timely store displays, product marketing, and merchandise delivery to the sales floor; assist with aisle maintenance, dusting, transporting, lifting, unloading, and inventory.
- Verify the cash drawer at the start and end of the shift; reconcile the drawer, process credit card transactions, and record them accurately.
- Perform payroll deduction transactions.
- Provide quick, accurate, and complete transactions; count and balance daily sales receipts; accept payments and give correct change.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum two (2) years of retail and customer service experience.
- High level of customer service and a positive sales approach, with flexibility and dependability, especially during seasonal sales periods.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask; creative skills needed for shop displays.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, stressful retail environment.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, teamwork, and data entry skills.
