The Roanoke Regional Airport Commission is seeking dedicated, professional, and service-oriented law enforcement officers to join our Airport Police Department.
Airport Police Officers play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of the traveling public, airport employees, tenants, and visitors. Unlike traditional patrol assignments, Airport Police Officers work in a unique environment where community policing, customer service, aviation security, and public safety come together every day.

What You'll Do- Protect the traveling public, airport employees, tenants, and visitors through proactive law enforcement and community policing.
- Patrol airport facilities, parking areas, terminal buildings, secure areas, and the airfield to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Enforce federal aviation security regulations, state laws, and Airport Commission policies.
- Respond to security incidents, criminal activity, suspicious persons, disturbances, traffic incidents, and other emergency calls.
- Provide a visible law enforcement presence at the TSA passenger screening checkpoint and throughout airport property.
- Monitor airport security systems and respond to alarms, access control issues, and security breaches.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, thefts, property damage, and other criminal or suspicious activity.
- Prepare accurate reports and maintain required documentation.
- Coordinate with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), airport operations personnel, airlines, emergency responders, and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Assist with airport emergencies, crowd management, special events, and severe weather operations.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting passengers, visitors, and airport tenants with professionalism, courtesy, and respect.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from a Virginia Police Academy.
- Current eligibility to maintain Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement certification.
- Valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain TSA security clearance for unescorted access to secure airport areas.
- Ability to successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation.
- Associate degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
- Three years of law enforcement experience with a local, state, or federal agency.
- Experience in aviation security, transportation security, or community policing.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Integrity and professionalism.
- Sound judgment and ethical decision-making.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong problem-solving and de-escalation abilities.
- The ability to remain calm and decisive in high‑pressure situations.
- A commitment to teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning.
Airport Police Officers work rotating shifts that include days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and requires availability during severe weather, emergencies, and other operational events.
Physical RequirementsThis position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of a sworn law enforcement officer, including prolonged standing and walking, operating police vehicles, responding to emergencies, wearing required protective equipment, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
