Diesel Technician

Position Overview

Ryder is hiring an experienced Mid‑Level Diesel Technician in Roanoke, Virginia.

• Hourly Pay: $25.00 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 per new ASE Certification up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, weekends OFF;
  
  Hours:
  
  1:30 pm – 10:00 pm

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification, Post‑Secondary degree or Technical Certifications preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work) required
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in this field preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred
• Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Perform standard vehicle maintenance
• Perform standard component inspections and repairs
• Perform preventive maintenance
• Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Identify root cause of basic failures and perform repairs as required
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Work in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
• Perform other support duties as required to support operations, such as Service Island support
