Maintenance Technician II - Landscape

Job Summary

We are looking for a Maintenance Technician II to join the Landscape crew in the Transportation Division. The role involves skilled landscape maintenance of rights‑of‑way and operation of Ventrac and other commercial mowing equipment.

• Operate heavy equipment such as tractor‑trailer, street sweeper, excavator, bulldozer, backhoe, heavy front‑end loader, crane, chipper, and large motor grader.
• Operate light and heavy equipment for snow removal and emergency tasks, including occasional nights and weekends.
• Operate trucks with automatic and manual transmissions, performing inspections and ensuring proper equipment for assignments.
• Maintain accurate log sheets, checklists, pre‑trip sheets, and shop operation logs.
• Repair and adjust landscape equipment, including major and minor motor repairs (spark plugs, radiator hoses, water pumps, valves, bearings, carburetors, brakes, transmission, etc.).
• Perform landscaping tasks – mowing, mulching, aeration, grading, seeding, sodding, and other field repairs.
• Assist with special events, traffic control, pavement markings, and sign installation per MUTCD standards.
• Use computer graphic software for fabrication and installation of signs and markings as required.
• Enforce safety rules, maintain housekeeping practices, and wear respiratory protection when needed.

• High school diploma or GED, plus 2‑3 years of related experience or training in the relevant trade area, or equivalent education/experience.
• Certification as a Registered Technician Pesticide Applicator.
• Class B commercial driver’s license with tanker endorsement (C‑class endorsement if required). Must obtain the CDL within 12 months of hire.
• Fertilizer Applicator certification required within 12 months of hire.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Strong reasoning ability and problem‑solving skills in standardized situations.
• Physical ability to regularly sit, use hands, reach, walk, climb, lift up to 75 lbs, and adjust visual focus.
• Experience with playground inspection certification and/or journey‑level licensed skilled trades is a plus.

The position requires regular handling of physical tasks, exposure to weather, vibration, noise, and occasionally wet or humid conditions. The employee must meet the listed physical demands and work safely in outdoor environments.

• Paid leave and extended illness leave accrue based on years of service.
