PAINTER

Responsibilities

The Painter prepares various surfaces for painting, applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, other finishes, and wallpapers to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, equipment, and furniture. Additionally, the Painter performs a variety of basic mechanical and preventive maintenance tasks, conducts inspections, services, repairs, and overhauls of equipment and facilities. Key duties include:

• Investigating and coordinating needed repairs with facility personnel to ensure timely completion of maintenance projects.
• Receiving assignments, reviewing work orders, and completing work as specified.
• Identifying and securing appropriate supplies and equipment and selecting suitable process techniques.
• Coordinating, scheduling, and performing building finishes activities such as patching, painting, varnishing, staining, wall and frame protectors, VCT, base, and wallpapering.
• Restoring and refinishing damaged wood and metal furniture and facility equipment.
• Detecting malfunctions, maintaining, and repairing machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
• Using hand and power tools, precision measuring and testing instruments, and applying coatings while installing special functional and structural parts.
• Documenting and maintaining all required records related to work orders, project instruction manuals, blueprints, and other materials.
• Researching new techniques, materials, and equipment to make recommendations to management.

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: Three years of commercial experience in painting and wallpapering trade; broad experience with VCT, base, paints, wallpaper, and other finishes in a commercial and healthcare environment preferred.
• Licensure, certification, registration: None required.
• Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Strong communication skills with co‑workers and others.
• Ability to maintain required records and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Proficiency in using a computerized work order control system.
