Performs Journeyman Electrician's level work involving difficult electrical design, maintenance, repair, and installation of Authority water/wastewater facilities and equipment. Work is performed according to National Electrical Code and State, County, City, Water, and Wastewater regulations. Graduation from high school/GED equivalent supplemented by coursework in electricity/electronics plus three (3) or more years related experience. Journeyman Electrician's license required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Inspects work in progress to assure conformance with instructions.
- Coordinates with other department operational and technical personnel.
- Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and services the full range of power-driven equipment as found in the water treatment industry.
- May assist with the design of circuitry for new installations.
- Determines correct wire and equipment size.
- Requisition s necessary equipment and orders required materials.
- Wires buildings and makes additions to existing wiring.
- Plans and installs remote control and telemetry through telephone and radio circuits.
- Tests electrical equipment for operation and safety.
- Installs and maintains intra-communication systems and alarms.
- Installs and repairs electrical switches, magnetic starters and relays.
- Installs and repairs electric motors.
- Installs and repairs PLC circuits.
- Sizes pumps, valves, and motors.
- Communicates with power and telephone companies on needed requirements.
- Interprets charts, blueprints and maps.
- Maintains time and material records and prepares simple reports.
- Subject to twenty-four (24) hour call.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other Water Authority departments and the general public.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, maps and procedure manuals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writing, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to work alone or in a team environment.
- Must possess and maintain a good work ethic with a strong emphasis on good attendance, reporting to work on time, completing job assignments in a timely manner, maintaining a good work attitude, performing all job duties as assigned and/or scheduled.
- Thorough knowledge of standard practices, tools and terminology of the electrical trades.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic theory.
- Skill in making repairs on complicated electric control circuits, motors and equipment.
- A thorough knowledge of hydrodynamics.
- Knowledge of pumps, PLCs and valves.
- Thorough knowledge of standard safety practices and procedures involving electrical and electronic theory.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent supplemented by coursework in electricity and electronics from either trade or technical school plus three (3) or more years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificate, License, Registration Requirements- Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license or have the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment date. No more than six (6) demerit points on driving record if required to drive Authority vehicles.
- Journeyman Electrician's license.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
- Specific vision abilities required include ability to adjust focus. If corrective lenses are noted on driver's license, the lenses must be worn when operating Authority vehicles.
- Repetitive movement using equipment is involved.
- Required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, climb (ladders/stairs), balance or crawl.
- Must stand for an extended amount of time at the jobsite.
- Must walk several miles during the day.
- Must regularly reach overhead.
- Must push/pull up to 30 pounds.
- Must lift, carry and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds. Assistance is required on weight amounts above those listed.
- Regularly exposed to moderate or high noise level, extreme outside weather conditions, uneven, steep, slippery terrain conditions, dusty conditions and wet and/or humid conditions.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment operation.
- Roadway hazards (traffic).
- Outdoor hazards (poison ivy, bees, spiders, dirt, animals).
