Electrician I (Commercial Construction)
The Electrician is responsible for planning the layout, installing, and repairing wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. Duties/
Responsibilities include:
- Planning new or modified installation to minimize waste of material
- Providing access for future maintenance and avoiding unsightly, hazardous or unreliable wiring consistent with specifications, local and national electrical codes
- Preparing sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or following diagrams or blueprints ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring
- Measuring, cutting, bending, threading, and assembling and installing electrical conduit using tools such as hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender
- Pulling wiring through conduit assisted by helper
- Splicing wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps
- Connecting wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools
- Installing control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts using hand tools and power tools
- Connecting power cables to equipment such as electric range or motor and installing grounding leads
- Testing circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using various testing instruments
- Observing functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement
- May repair faulty equipment or systems
- Gathering and collating information and data
- Assisting in the mentoring, training, and growth of other employee owners
Qualifications include:
- Demonstrates critical thinking and reasoning skills
- High School diploma or equivalency
- High School level language (writing/speaking/listening) and mathematical skills
- 1-4 years of prior Electrician experience

Travel is frequently required to and from job site locations.
Physical demands include:
- Use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms
- Stand (approximately 60%), walk (approximately 30%), and sit (approximately 10%)
- Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear
- Carry up to 75lbs, lift up to 100lbs, and move up to 200lbs
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
This is a full-time position which typically requires 40 hours per week.
