Performs unskilled and skilled work in the repairs, maintenance, construction, and installation of water and sewer lines, facilities, and equipment, and maintains water and sanitary sewer service to customers. Performs general labor tasks and operates equipment when necessary, including hand tools, pumps, air compressors, saws, jumping jacks, generators, and chain saws. Services or makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. Works varied shifts, including standby and emergency hours.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; previous experience preferred.

• Perform water and sanitary sewer line repairs and construction and operate combination sewer cleaner in sewer maintenance operations.
• Operate equipment when necessary, including hand tools, pumps, air compressors, saws, jumping jacks, generators, or chain saws.
• Perform general labor tasks.
• Make repairs and install water and sanitary sewer lines.
• Perform tasks such as sewer line troubleshooting and pipe installation.
• Service and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
• Work varied shifts, including standby and emergency hours.

• Must possess and maintain a good work ethic with a strong emphasis on good attendance, reporting to work on time, completing job assignments in a timely manner, maintaining a good work attitude, and performing all duties as assigned and/or scheduled.
• Working knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, and procedures used in water and sewer related activities.
• Skill in operating some of the equipment required for pipe line repair.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including standby hours.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Previous experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. No more than six demerit points on a driving record if required to drive Water Authority vehicles.
• Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within six months of employment. Promotion to Utility Construction Technician II once all requirements are met.

• Regularly required to walk, stand, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
• Specific vision abilities include adjusting focus; corrective lenses must be worn when operating Authority vehicles if noted on driver’s license.
• Repetitive movement using equipment is involved.
• Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, climb, balance, or crawl.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods at the jobsite.
• Must be physically able to walk several miles during the day.
• Must be physically able to regularly reach overhead.
• Must regularly lift, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally 100 pounds. Assistance is required for weights above those listed to avoid injury and preserve Worker's Compensation benefits.

• Exposure to moderate or high noise level, extreme weather conditions, uneven, steep, slippery terrain, dusty conditions, and wet/humid conditions.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment operation.
• Exposure to roadway hazards, i.e., traffic.
• Exposure to outside hazards such as poison ivy, bees, spiders, dirt, and animals.
• Exposure to confined spaces, sewer manholes, water vaults, wastewater pits, and/or protected trenches.
