Recreation Assistant - Community Recreation

Overview

The City of Roanoke is seeking a Recreation Assistant with Community Recreation to perform responsible work in facility supervision during youth, adult, and senior recreation programs and facility rentals. Requires the knowledge and desire to work with the community. Must have the ability to build and maximize neighborhood and community relations and utilize effective communication (both orally and in writing).

• Duties may include collecting registration documents, light food preparation, light household cleaning, and completing assignments on computer.
• Assist with youth development and community activities including fitness and movement, art, nature study, crafts and be able to assist children with homework assignments.
• Develop new and creative programs and build and maximize neighborhood and community relations; communicate effectively (both orally and in writing).
• May have to collect registration documents, write receipts, make deposits and complete assignments on computer.

• Minimum requirements include any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation.
• Possession of valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Standard First Aid and CPR preferred. Certifications required upon request - ARC Standard First Aid and CPR.
• The position's exemption status varies.

Hours will vary depending upon program and rental schedules; includes days, evenings, and weekends.
