Family Services Aide

Job Overview

Effective 6/30/2013, positions within the City of Roanoke which contain “Social Work” will be reclassified to “Family Services” to comply with the Code of Virginia § 54.1-3709. The City of Roanoke is seeking a Family Services Aide to perform human support work in providing a variety of services for agency clients.

This is a non‑exempt position.

• Facilitate client access to service resources, including clinic, doctor, counseling, vocational, recreational, etc.
• Supply information about agency and/or community resources and facilities to neighborhood residents.
• Provide transportation for children and youth for visitation and appointments.
• Provide supportive services to homebound clients (elderly/sick).
• Instruct groups and/or individuals in homemaking and/or parenting skills as needed.
• Verify data and assist clients in making arrangements for various services.
• Assist Family Services Specialist and/or Family Services Supervisor in determining client needs, monitoring case progress, and maintaining dictation of activities.
• Provide testimony in court as needed.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Equivalent combination of education and experience in the human services field is acceptable.
• Possession of a valid appropriate driver’s permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Driving abilities that allow the transportation of clients.
• Bilingual Spanish/English speakers encouraged to apply.
