The City of Roanoke is seeking a Detention Outreach Worker to perform human support work in the direct supervision and counseling of adolescents on the detention outreach program. The successful candidate will supervise juveniles released to the program as a detention alternative in accordance with court or probation orders while exercising independent judgment in the day-to-day monitoring of the assigned caseload.

This position requires familiarity with agency functions and community resources.

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or related field; two years related experience and/or training in counseling, court services, social work or detention environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of all requirements as prescribed by State regulations (i.e. CPR, first aid, restraint). Possession of a valid state driver's license.

Work days are Monday thru Friday with frequent evenings and holidays. Must clear criminal background investigation.

The Detention Outreach Worker performs human support work in the direct supervision and counseling of adolescents on the detention outreach program. The Detention Outreach Worker will supervise juveniles released to the program as a detention alternative in accordance with court or juvenile probation rules while exercising independent judgment in the day-to-day monitoring of the assigned caseload.

• Supervises and directs court involved juveniles released as a detention alternative in accordance with court or juvenile probation rules. This include daily visits to the juvenile's home and a minimum of once weekly school contact.
• Conducts school and home visits of adolescents enrolled in the Outreach Detention Program to ensure activities are in conformance with provisions, restrictions and regulations.
• Develops treatment plans, objectives and methods of handling problems of court involved youth and the family unit.
• Maintains case files and documentation of all contacts with clients, parents/legal guardians and other professionals and agencies involved in the case.
• Refers family and youth to services in the community.
• Organizes and refers to individual social, athletic and recreational outings.
• Prepares progress evaluations and recommendation reports; provides testimony in court as required. This includes reporting program violations and new offenses.
• Participates in Family Assessment and Planning Team, Interdisciplinary Team and Family Partnership meetings as required.
