Crater Youth Care Commission is looking for a dedicated and experienced Detention Specialist III to join their team in Disputanta, VA. • Supervise and monitor detained youth to ensure safety, security, and compliance with facility policies
• Implement behavior management techniques and de-escalation strategies in crisis situations
• Maintain accurate documentation of youth behavior, incidents, and daily activity logs
• Coordinate with case managers, counselors, and court personnel regarding youth status and progress
• Conduct intake, searches, and orientation procedures for newly admitted youth
• Lead and facilitate structured programming, recreational activities, and daily routines
• Mentor and guide junior detention staff, providing leadership as a senior-level specialist

• Prior experience in juvenile detention, corrections, or youth residential care required
• Strong knowledge of behavior management and trauma-informed care practices
• Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress or crisis situations
• Valid driver's license and clean background check required
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
• Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
• High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work, or related field preferred
