The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) participates in the implementation and evaluation of patient/resident care for stable and predictable patients/residents of all ages in the home care setting. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the patient/resident in the home setting and possesses the ability to perform testing to assess data reflective of the patient's/resident's status and to interpret the information needed to identify each patient's/resident's requirements relative to the age‑specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
The LPN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population‑specific standards as designated in the home care setting. The LPN ensures the health, comfort and safety of patients/residents.
Responsibilities include:
administering a variety of treatments and medications as directed; documenting and maintaining records; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients/residents, health care providers, and the public; recognizing problems and recommending solutions; interpreting, adapting, and following guidelines and procedures; communicating clearly; maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information; and counseling patients/residents and family members, under the direction of a registered nurse, on prevention and treatment plans.
- Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- If position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduation from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing (if applicable).
- One year of professional nursing experience preferred.
- Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possesses multi‑state licensure privileges.
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department‑specific competencies and certifications.
- Valid driver’s license may be required depending on location.
