The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents during scheduled work periods in long‑term care. Responsibilities include providing resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA delivers age‑appropriate care for physical and psychological needs per the resident’s care plan, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital sign monitoring, psychosocial support, assistance with transfer and mobilization, range‑of‑motion exercises, and food preparation.
The NA documents interactions, monitors resident condition, communicates with charge nurses, collects non‑invasive specimens, and supports housekeeping, laundry, and recreational programs. The role may involve participation in departmental committees and task forces.
- High school graduate or GED preferred.
- Minimum age 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification; must obtain within four months if not already certified.
- Completes yearly competency testing and maintains at least 12 hours of continuing education per year.
- Maintains all department‑specific required certifications.
- When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- May be required to hold a valid driver’s license and pass a motor vehicle report if the role involves driving responsibilities.
