Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist delivers cardiopulmonary care to patients by performing assessments, administering treatments, and managing respiratory care equipment. They collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes while adhering to safety protocols and departmental policies.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and initial screenings tailored to age, cultural, and psycho-social factors.
- Determine appropriate treatment plans, including therapy types, methods, and medication dosages based on physician orders.
- Educate patients and families on treatment procedures, pain management, and discharge instructions, evaluating learning effectiveness.
- Monitor physiological responses during therapy, such as vital signs and blood gas levels, consulting physicians for adverse reactions.
- Prepare, administer, and adjust respiratory medications while understanding their outcomes and side effects.
- Conduct diagnostic tests like lung capacity and cardiac monitoring, adjusting equipment to optimize results.
Qualifications:
- Current Illinois Respiratory Therapist License is required.
- Possess BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications.
- Have at least 1 year of experience in respiratory therapy, preferred.
- Demonstrate strong computer skills with proficiency in EMR systems.
