The City of Robinson is seeking a full-time Water Plant Operator to maintain and operate the system in a safe, effective, and efficient manner; requires technical expertise; operating surface water treatment systems which requires making process control changes as necessary and corrective maintenance and repairs on facilities and equipment.
Responsibilities- Prepare for inclement weather and take necessary precautions.
- Perform routine cleanup of all work areas.
- Maintain all areas of the system in a clean and neat manner.
- Accurately log & record data in computer or manually.
- Perform grounds maintenance including but not limited to mowing, edging, application of pesticides and herbicides, and landscaping.
- Prepare necessary reports as applicable to work performed.
- Relieve other employees as required.
- Answer phone and take messages as required.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safe work practices and rules.
- Operate vehicles and light equipment.
- Assist in the design, planning, and/or construction of facilities and equipment.
- Assess emergency situations and notify appropriate personnel.
- Any other duties as may be assigned.
- Perform preventative, corrective, predictive maintenance; repair of stationary and movable equipment and machinery including compressors, pumps, motors, drives, vehicles, trucks, cars, tractors, mowers, etc.
- Perform general preparation and painting of system facilities.
- Read, understand, and complete general work orders with supervision.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, vehicles, and structures.
- Use specialized tools and equipment.
- Assist in the excavation and repair of small chemical feed lines.
- Perform routine chemical and physical tests on samples collected including, but not limited to, chlorine, sulfate, pH, alkalinity, hardness, conductivity, chlorine, ammonia, chlorine dioxide, turbidity, and other tests as needed in accordance with required analysis methods.
- Maintain accurate log of data and prepares reports as required.
- Assist in the preparation of required periodic and special reports and annual budget.
- Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of chemicals, glassware, and other supplies and notify supervisor to reorder.
- Collect water samples from different sites at scheduled intervals at various stages of the collection and treatment process, including but not limited to, bacteriological, chlorite/chlorate and trihalomethanes (TTHM’s).
- Monitor, adjust, and document lab equipment condition, sample preservation, analysis procedures and methods and calibrates equipment as necessary in accordance with prescribed standards.
- Perform all required analysis in the absence of chemist.
- Assist in monitoring all plant equipment and meters at regular intervals, making adjustments as needed for proper operation and recording data.
- Visually inspect plant facility, equipment, and instruments.
- Adjust valves and pumps as necessary to maintain proper levels of chemical dosage for coagulants, coagulant aids, chlorine, ammonia, caustic, antiscalants, and Hydrochloric acid.
- Assist in conducting control and routine tests, including taking water samples on site and at other locations, and recording data, including pH levels, temperature, turbidity, chloride, chlorine, chlorine dioxide, and flow, at regular intervals.
- Clean and maintain facilities and grounds, including mowing the grass, cleaning the plant and lab, and painting.
- Ensure that chlorine tanks are delivered and properly hooked up and that empty tanks are returned to distributor.
