- Provide high‑level technical support on a regional or system basis relating to corrosion control and pipeline integrity.
- Design and maintain cathodic protection and internal corrosion control facilities.
- Conduct internal and external specialized corrosion tests on steel structures.
- Gather annual pipe‑to‑soil surveys, take rectifier readings, troubleshoot rectifier units, perform interference testing, and recommend, design, oversee installation, and create as‑built drawings for cathodic facilities.
- Design, install, operate, and maintain cathodic protection facilities, power lines, galvanic anodes, and internal corrosion control systems.
- Monitor pipeline conditions through pipe‑to‑soil potentials, visual inspections, coupon examinations, in‑line tool data, and other monitoring methods.
- Identify electrical isolation issues and pinpoint points of electrical shorts.
- Conduct tests, measurements, and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection facilities.
- Perform atmospheric corrosion duties, including coating evaluations and technical assistance to district operations.
- Develop and monitor internal corrosion control programs for single and multiphase gas pipelines and liquid lines.
- Gather and evaluate data; recommend and oversee mitigative measures.
- Document all work related to regulatory compliance and operational procedures.
- Lead long‑term cathodic protection system design and implementation efforts.
- Prepare drawings, job specifications, and contract bid documents.
- Assist engineering personnel with facility grounding system evaluation, development, implementation, and maintenance.
- Participate in federal inspections and inspect third‑party construction or work activities.
- Mentor fellow employees when opportunities arise.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Job level will vary with experience.
- Two‑year technical degree in Corrosion Technology, Electrical, Electronics, or an equivalent field from an accredited institution.
- Approved coursework covering all phases of corrosion, including internal, external, and atmospheric corrosion.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Must maintain all required qualifications, certifications, and progression criteria applicable to the job classification.
- Completion of site‑specific technical training may be required.
- May need a commercial driver’s license to operate company commercial vehicles and comply with applicable regulations.
- Proficient in operating all corrosion‑related instrumentation.
- Working knowledge of environmental and safety aspects of coating projects.
- Competent with computer applications (MS Office, operating systems, company software, and technical systems).
- Basic mathematics skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
- Responsive to callouts and emergencies during regular and after‑hours duties, including overnight shifts, requiring a communication device.
- Capable of completing work assignments with minimal supervision within acceptable time frames.
- Able to operate and maintain chemical injection and pressure access equipment.
