About

The Role

As a Shipping & Warehouse Manager at Wheatland Tube
Zekelman Industries
, you will lead a critical part of the supply chain by overseeing warehouse and distribution operations to ensure safe, efficient, and customer-focused execution. This role is responsible for managing inventory, logistics, and outbound shipping while optimizing material flow across a multi-product, multi-modal environment. You will collaborate with production, logistics, and sales teams to drive on‑time delivery, inventory accuracy, and operational excellence.

This full‑time, onsite role is located in Rochelle, IL and is ideal for a results‑driven leader who thrives in a fast‑paced industrial environment and is passionate about safety, continuous improvement, and team development.

What You’ll Do
  • Oversee warehouse and distribution operations including receiving, storage, inventory control, order fulfillment, and outbound logistics.
  • Coordinate multi-modal shipping operations including truckload, rail, and intermodal transportation.
  • Drive on‑time delivery performance, dock utilization, and yard efficiency to support production and customer schedules.
  • Manage inventory accuracy through cycle counts, reconciliation processes, and inventory control best practices.
  • Collaborate with production planning, logistics, and sales to optimize loading strategies and transportation methods.
  • Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with OSHA and company policies across warehouse and yard operations.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives such as lean practices, 5S, and process optimization to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Partner with IT and operations teams to implement systems that enhance visibility into inventory and shipping activity.
  • Lead, coach, and develop warehouse supervisors, operators, and logistics personnel across multiple shifts.
  • Set performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and drive accountability for safety, quality, and productivity goals.
  • Assist in managing budgets related to labor, equipment, and transportation costs.
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators including on‑time delivery, inventory accuracy, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead and promote healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Who You Are
  • 8–10 years of experience in warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations, preferably in manufacturing or heavy‑industrial environments.
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience in a plant-level or senior operational role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems, ERP platforms, and inventory control processes.
  • Experience coordinating multi-modal transportation including rail, truckload, and intermodal shipping.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive safety culture, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Experience in steel, pipe, or heavy manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with lean principles or Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
  • Ability to maintain regular, full‑time, predictable onsite attendance.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to other facilities as needed.

Annual Salary Range: $91,000 - $126,000
