POSITION SUMMARY
CNA position responsibilities encompass compliance with The Joint Commission standards, CMS, OSHA, IDPH and state regulations. The Certified Nursing Assistant interacts directly with patients, providing comfort and transportation, monitoring their vital signs, assisting with daily living needs, and assisting the nurses in the treatment and care of the patients in accordance with the established methods, protocols, policies and procedures of the hospital.
Required
- Must have completed a Nursing Assistant Program and be certified in the state of Illinois.
Preferred
- Preferred Level: High School Diploma or GED. Any equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered
Skill/Experience/Competency
- CPR certified
- Previous Medical/Surgical experience desirable.
- Must show competency of those skills designated by the Manager of Inpatient Services by written exam and/or demonstration.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure
- The ability to operate designated computer equipment.
- Is proactive in seeking out additional tasks when assignments are complete.
- Accountable for own conduct and promotes good working relationships among staff and between other disciplines and departments.
- Demonstrates the ability to work accurately and effectively in oral and written directions and communication.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Enjoy working with people and cooperatively with other hospital staff.
- CNAs provide essential direct patient care, working alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist with activities of daily life like bathing and feeding, take vital signs, and report changes in a patient’s condition.
- Exposure to patient care can lead to emotional exhaustion.
- The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Requires long periods of standing at times.
- Requires quick movement, agility and fast response time.
- Requires direct patient contact with potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious disease.
- Frequent repositioning of patients.
- Ability to perform CPR - a strenuous activity.
- Constant kneeling, stooping, bending, twisting and occasional need to lift patients.
- Medium lifting, generally lifting not more than 50 lbs. maximum with assistance, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
