Quality Technician – Wheatland Tube (Zekelman Industries), Rochelle, IL

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, this role supports plant operations through inspections, testing, audits, and continuous improvement efforts.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform duties in accordance with company safety policies and report unsafe conditions.
  • Conduct inspection and testing activities to support plant quality requirements.
  • Notify operational personnel when product is out of tolerance and verify quality after adjustments are made.
  • Support operations as a team member to define root cause and resolve issues before they impact quality.
  • Ensure non-conforming products are identified, recorded, and properly tagged.
  • Monitor cleaning and environmental processes throughout the facility, including:
    • Cleaning and calibrating pH instrumentation.
    • Performing titrations on process tanks.
    • Ensuring treatment processes operate efficiently.
    • Ordering chemicals as needed.
  • Monitor wastewater treatment systems for proper operation.
  • Record water flow meter and pH readings throughout the facility.
  • Perform laboratory indicator testing of effluent waters and make process adjustments accordingly.
  • Conduct inspections of specific processes throughout the plant.
  • Perform workstation audits on the shop floor to ensure quality procedures are implemented and effective.
  • Train other employees as required to support quality standards.
  • Support the gauge calibration program by issuing and monitoring gauges used on the floor.
  • Perform daily audits of gauges utilized throughout the facility.
  • Coordinate special projects as directed by the Quality Manager.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and yield projects.
  • Assist with additional projects and analyses as needed.
  • Maintain regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance.
  • Lead and promote health and safety work practices in accordance with regulatory agencies and company policy.
Who You Are
  • 5+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong team player with the ability to coordinate efforts across multiple groups.
  • Sound decision-making, analytical, and computational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Physical Abilities
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, push, and pull.
  • Ability to reach in all directions.
  • Ability to meet other physical requirements as needed for the job.
