Quality Technician – Wheatland Tube (Zekelman Industries), Rochelle, IL
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, this role supports plant operations through inspections, testing, audits, and continuous improvement efforts.
What You’ll Do- Perform duties in accordance with company safety policies and report unsafe conditions.
- Conduct inspection and testing activities to support plant quality requirements.
- Notify operational personnel when product is out of tolerance and verify quality after adjustments are made.
- Support operations as a team member to define root cause and resolve issues before they impact quality.
- Ensure non-conforming products are identified, recorded, and properly tagged.
- Monitor cleaning and environmental processes throughout the facility, including:
- Cleaning and calibrating pH instrumentation.
- Performing titrations on process tanks.
- Ensuring treatment processes operate efficiently.
- Ordering chemicals as needed.
- Monitor wastewater treatment systems for proper operation.
- Record water flow meter and pH readings throughout the facility.
- Perform laboratory indicator testing of effluent waters and make process adjustments accordingly.
- Conduct inspections of specific processes throughout the plant.
- Perform workstation audits on the shop floor to ensure quality procedures are implemented and effective.
- Train other employees as required to support quality standards.
- Support the gauge calibration program by issuing and monitoring gauges used on the floor.
- Perform daily audits of gauges utilized throughout the facility.
- Coordinate special projects as directed by the Quality Manager.
- Participate in continuous improvement and yield projects.
- Assist with additional projects and analyses as needed.
- Maintain regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance.
- Lead and promote health and safety work practices in accordance with regulatory agencies and company policy.
- 5+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Strong team player with the ability to coordinate efforts across multiple groups.
- Sound decision-making, analytical, and computational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, push, and pull.
- Ability to reach in all directions.
- Ability to meet other physical requirements as needed for the job.

Hourly range: $23.00–$37.00 USD
