2nd Shift Maintenance Mechanic
This role combines multi-craft mechanical and electrical maintenance responsibilities to support a high-volume warehouse and labeling operation. The 2nd Shift Maintenance Mechanic installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of building and production machinery, equipment, and systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical controls, and PLC-driven equipment. The position plays a key role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility and its production lines during 2nd shift.
Responsibilities:
- Assemble, install, maintain, repair, and overhaul warehouse and labeling department machinery, equipment, and building systems, including safety and process improvements.
- Install, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems, including pumps and flow systems, ensuring reliable and safe operation.
- Perform maintenance wiring and electrical work, including installation of motors, switches, switch panels, fuse boxes, lighting, and power circuits.
- Inspect motors, switches, junction boxes, switch panels, circuit breakers, transformers, fuse panels, lighting, heating, and power circuits to identify issues and ensure safe operation.
- Perform preventative maintenance and running repairs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Install, connect, adjust, and calibrate electrical gauges and recording instruments to support accurate monitoring and control.
- Perform and strictly follow lockout/tagout procedures to ensure safe work on energized equipment.
- Work on electrical maintenance and capital projects as directed, completing tasks in a timely and efficient manner to meet budget and schedule requirements.
- Support annual electronic control requirements related to seamer performance and thermal processing calibration.
- Coordinate with supervision to maintain appropriate levels of electrical parts and supplies at the distribution center.
- Provide input to supervision and management regarding plant electrical maintenance needs for both short-term and long-term applications.
- Support training and development efforts to help electrical staff build and improve skills in electricity, circuitry, power distribution, building codes, and PLC troubleshooting.
- Continuously work on self-development and assist in developing electrical staff in programming, applications, and operation of PLC systems.
- Support maintenance crews in all departments by sharing electrical and PLC-related information and troubleshooting expertise.
- Troubleshoot panels, variable frequency drives (VFDs), power sources, and control circuits, including re-wiring as needed.
- Log in to PLC programs for troubleshooting and diagnostic purposes to identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Maintain open communication with supervisors and coworkers regarding work status, issues found, and changes that occur while performing tasks.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area to support safety and efficiency.
- Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse through proper handling of tools, equipment, and access points.
- Conduct all operations in a manner that promotes safety and complies with OSHA and other applicable standards.
- Use appropriate hand tools, power tools, and test equipment safely and effectively while performing maintenance tasks.
Essential
Skills:
- 5–7+ years of multi-craft maintenance mechanic experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing maintenance, including mechanical and electrical systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience as a general mechanic in an industrial setting.
- Proficiency in electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, including power distribution and control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Demonstrated experience working with 480V three-phase electrical systems.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and ladder logic diagrams.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment controlled by PC-based controllers and mechanical equipment sequencers.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for panels, VFDs, power sources, and control circuits.
- Ability to log into PLC programs for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
- Sound experience in solid state circuitry and devices, including high-voltage DC rectifier and control circuits.
- Proficiency in the use of test equipment such as multimeters, clamp-on ammeters, and ohmmeters.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively for maintenance work.
- Knowledge of and adherence to lockout/tagout procedures and OSHA safety standards.
- Ability to pass a Multi-Craft Aptitude Test covering mechanical and electrical skills.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, management, and maintenance crews.

- Manufacturing maintenance experience gained through an apprenticeship or equivalent on-the-job training.
