Reports to: Principal
Job GoalUnder the supervision of the Principal, the Middle School Literature Teacher is responsible for fostering the intellectual, social, and faith development of the child.
Responsibilities- Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example, being an active member of a faith community and open to the importance of personal faith journey.
- Build the school’s faith community by demonstrating willingness to participate in and plan school religious and service activities.
- Demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing literature lessons designed to implement stated goals and objectives and incorporating school and diocesan curriculum objectives into lesson plans.
- Demonstrate competence in teaching by demonstrating current, thorough knowledge of literature curriculum and ability to communicate effectively with students; organize classroom learning and materials to maximize student time on tasks and motivate learning.
- Develop and use effective methods of evaluation directly related to literature curriculum objectives and concepts and skills taught; consistently evaluate student progress.
- Establish a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self‑direction and positive self‑image; set high standards for student behavior and manage inappropriate behavior effectively.
- Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
- Work effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with students and parents.
- Demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing school policies and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of information, display sound judgment in dress and general behavior.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong commitment to Catholic education and model behavior in accordance with Holy Family Regional School mission and philosophy.
- Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
- Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; self‑starter, well‑organized, team player.
- Availability for evening and weekend work as necessary; reliable transportation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in the use of computer technology including word processing and Microsoft Office.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a ministerial environment.
- The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
- Professional bearing with a clean and neat personal appearance.
- Understand and abide by the Archdiocese of Detroit contract for employment and its specifications concerning the expectations of a Catholic school employee.
- Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited university.
- State of Michigan Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education.
- Language Arts endorsement for grades 6‑8.
