As a Product Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, modeling, analyzing, and characterizing high‑speed connectors, cables, and systems within our Copper Solutions enterprise division.

In this role you will provide technical expertise in connector and cable design for the exponentially growing data storage systems and telecommunications market. This dynamic group offers constant learning, innovation, and end‑to‑end project involvement from idea to high‑volume production. The product line drives industry impact for our customers.

The successful applicant will plan and see assignments through completion with minimal direction, develop timing, meet schedules, manage risks, accurately quote design, and systematically solve problems.

What You Will Do
  • Act as a team member in a global organization designing and developing leading‑edge new products and components for the high‑speed cable and connector industry.
  • Interface with cross‑functional teams in signal integrity, manufacturing integration, program management, sales, test laboratories, R&D, and senior leadership.
  • Develop and validate new interconnect products, including high‑speed connectors, connector‑cable assemblies, and related mechanical hardware for datacom and telecom applications such as hubs, servers, switches, routers.
  • Collaborate to develop cost‑competitive and creative designs with manufacturing and signal‑integrity teams that are efficient to manufacture while meeting high‑performance market requirements.
  • Develop product and application specification documents for testing that meet customer requirements and market expectations.
  • Present concepts and detailed requirements internally and to customers to obtain support for major new product development.
  • Support manufacturing and quality assurance during product launches and travel to manufacturing sites to work with the global team.
  • Create relationships with cross‑functional team members and peers through team‑building activities and growth opportunities, operating as One Molex Team.
  • Help lead the organization in identifying, evaluating, and implementing new technologies and methodologies to enable next‑generation products, improving costs and quality and advancing NPD engineering processes.
  • Work with marketing and external customers to help define new project opportunities and strategize overall design.
  • Work with quality and external suppliers to ensure product requirements are met.
  • Collaborate closely and directly with customer engineering during the product development lifecycle.
  • Provide application and technical support to consolidate inputs from marketing, customers, and external consultants into product concepts and detailed requirements.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in product‑design engineering of electronic components
  • Experience with welding, stamping, plating, plastic injection or insert molding, and connector and cable harness assembly
  • Knowledge of developing engineering documentation, including DFMEAs
  • Experience with tolerance‑analysis studies
  • Working knowledge in data analysis, preferably using Excel, Minitab, and/or Power BI
  • Proficiency in CAD, preferably NX or Team Center
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Six Sigma training or certification
  • Experience designing high‑speed interfaces, cable and board‑mount connectors
  • Experience with twinax termination, PCB surface‑mount and compression technologies
  • Design board launches (EON, SMT, compression, etc.)
  • High‑density board termination rework process
  • Experience with DVP testing

For this role, we anticipate paying $100,000‑$120,000 per year. The role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
