SUMMARY

This position is responsible for all activity during the shift including the food preparation, cooking, handling special dietary issues and general cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares the scheduled menu items for the shift, will include preparation of general client meals and following required dietary plans for special diets.
  • Coordinates with the kitchen supervisor on any special diet issues including communicating food items needed and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Assists with supervision of the kitchen during the shift ensuring that meals are prepared and distributed in a timely fashion, cleanliness and sanitation standards are maintained and work areas are left clean.
  • Responsible for sanitation and quality control of food including proper temperature, handling and storage of food.
  • Provides service support as needed to the kitchen area such as assisting aides with meal service, putting away stock, dish washing, etc.
  • Will be cross trained in Residence Services managing all the operational aspects of a front desk process so that team members will respond promptly when clients require ordinary or emergency assistance.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

One year of related cooking or food service experience required. Sanitation certification strongly desired; will be required and training provided upon hire.

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must be proficient in latest version of Microsoft Office products.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills and be able to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must have previous cooking/food service experience and be able to read and interpret recipes and special diet requests.
  • Must have familiarity with use, cleaning and proper maintenance of food service equipment.
  • Must be able to work with dogs and interact with blind and visually impaired students with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Must have the ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines; must have the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Must possess strong communication, organizational skills, and have acuity with detail.
  • Must possess sound business judgment, exercise professional conduct, understand and follow business ethics and standards, and maintain a high level of confidentiality in all duties.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with no restrictions and the ability to travel as needed.
  • Must be willing to perform general public relations duties on behalf of Leader Dog (perform tours, answer general questions, be a professional and courteous representative of Leader Dog, etc.).
  • Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive and courteous interactions with employees that promote positive teamwork, as well as with volunteers, donors, clients and all constituents of Leader Dog. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.
