Seasonal Lifeguard

An employee in this classification, under the general direction of the Beachfront Supervisor and direct supervision of the Lifeguard Captain, is responsible for life saving and emergency services for the beach at Spencer Park. Employees will work non-traditional shifts including day and evening along with weekends and holidays. Employees in this position are integral to maintaining the safety of the City of Rochester Hills Spencer lake and beach while providing a positive experience for Rochester Hills residents and other patrons of Spencer Park.

• 1. Identifies and works to prevent potential accidents.
• 2. Enforces park and beachfront rules.
• 3. Responds quickly and decisively and in accordance with established emergency and accident procedures.
• 4. Administers first aid and CPR as required.
• 5. Interacts and communicates effectively with other lifeguards, as required.
• 6. Assists patrons in a positive and professional manner.
• 7. Communicates effectively with park staff and patrons.
• 8. Attends training sessions, as required.
• 9. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
• 10. Other duties as assigned.

• 1. At least 16 years of age. Those that are 15 years old may apply for consideration as a Beachfront Attendant (Lifeguard in-training).

  The Beachfront Attendant pay rate is $14.00/hour.
• 2. Red Cross Lifeguard certification or the ability to obtain Red Cross Lifeguard certification within the first three (3) weeks of employment.
• 3. Acceptable Criminal History.

  To evaluate swimming and lifeguarding skills.

  To evaluate lifeguarding knowledge.
