Spalding DeDecker is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team. In this role, the Senior Accountant supports financial reporting, project accounting, and strategic analysis for a project-based professional services firm, reporting to the Accounting Manager.
Requirements- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; engineering, architecture, consulting, or professional services firm preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, project accounting, project-based revenue recognition, and WIP management.
- High proficiency with ERP systems and Excel.
- Must be detail-oriented, have strong ownership of responsibilities, and be deadline-driven.
- Strong customer service mindset, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to translate financial data into actionable, understandable insights.
- Seeks continuous improvement.
- Strong ethics, judgment, and discretion with confidential information.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes; prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Dashboards and management reports (utilization, realization, margin analysis, overhead trends, cash flow forecasts).
- Reporting packages for the President, Directors, and Project Managers.
- Project setup, revenue recognition, invoicing WIP, job cost reporting, and project closeout.
- Work with Project Managers to interpret job cost data, profitability, backlog, and billing performance.
- Assist in developing KPI’s. Train and assist Project Managers in interpreting KPI’s.
- Process improvements utilizing tools in Deltek VantagePoint.
- Support internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure clean audits.
- Lead annual financial, benefit plan, and FAR audits.
- Support the annual ESOP valuation process.
- Support participant distributions and cash flow planning.
- Support annual budgeting.
- Support strategic planning, scenario modeling, and capital investment analysis.
