Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Previous experience in counseling/ advising students and/or testing administration, student support in the post-secondary environment.
- Knowledge of OU anti-discrimination and equal opportunity policy and procedure as they relate to students with disabilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of assistive technology.
- Knowledge of developing and presenting educational programs.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Masters Degree – Counseling, Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC ), Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education or Social Work. Strong technical and database skills.
Unless otherwise required by an applicable collective bargaining agreement, all minimum, additional and desired qualifications are preferred, but qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole and exclusive discretion may be considered.
Position Purpose
This hybrid role supports the mission of the Disability Support Services ( DSS ) office by coordinating accommodated testing services (75%) and performing disability intake and accommodation assessments (25%). Reviews and processes all exam appointment requests submitted by students and communicates follow-up questions as needed. Manages faculty communications related to student exam appointments. Facilitates the administration and proctoring of exams for students registered with Disability Support Services, including weekly evening hours.
Oversees the secure receipt, handling, storage, and return of exams to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of testing materials. Assists the Director with data collection and reporting related to the testing process. Designs and presents programs to educate and sensitize the OU community about the needs of students with disabilities. Coordinates appropriate academic adjustments, reasonable accommodations and other services for students with disabilities.
Evaluates disability documentation to determine student eligibility for academic adjustments, reasonable accommodations and other services. Consult with faculty and other campus administrative areas to facilitate student disability related services and accommodations. Explains University services, policy and procedures to students and parents during intake appointments.
