Junior Designer

Oak Street Design LLC is a custom residential design firm passionate about creating beautiful but approachable spaces. Position Overview

A full-time, in-office, entry-level position at our Michigan studio for a recent graduate. The Junior Designer produces drawings and design work under the direction of the Director of Design and Designer I, with a clear path to advance to Designer I as experience grows.

Responsibilities for Junior Designer

• Produce architectural/construction plans and renovation design drafts for new construction homes and renovation/addition projects, for Director of Design and client approval
• Rework and modify designs based on comments and reviews from the Director of Design, Designer I and clients
• Ensure that all architectural plans are compliant with industry codes, safety standards and municipal regulations
• Gather existing measurements and produce as-built drawings for renovation/addition projects; attend client meetings and site measures
• Coordinate project details with team members and external Architects, Designers, Engineers and Builders, and communicate project details and adjustments to clients
• Ensure all vital information and documentation for each project is recorded in detail and maintained
• Research and incorporate artistic elements into designs and produce occasional 3D renderings for client presentations
• Assist with firm marketing initiatives including graphic design, photography and deliverables; support and help guide the Intern Designer
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications for Junior Designer

• Bachelor's degree in architecture, architectural technology or a related design field is required (Associate's degree in architectural technology plus 1–2 years of drafting experience also considered)
• 0–2 years of professional experience in residential design or architecture; internship experience is welcomed
• Ability to read and interpret various types of architectural plans
• Distinctly detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to detect and correct design flaws
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both within the OSD team and externally with clients and other professionals
• Self-starter who is intrinsically motivated and works well both in a team and autonomously
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit; note any experience with Sketch Up, Enscape or other rendering software
