Job Description Summary

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, & Criminal Justice invites applications for a full-time Special Instructor of Social Work position to begin August 15, 2026, to support both MSW and BSW Programs. Special Instructors are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses based on their qualifications, and demonstrate a commitment to OU, the College of Arts and Sciences, and professional service.

We are looking for candidates who have the potential to teach across the generalist and advanced practice curricula of the MSW and BSW programs, with an emphasis an on the Human Behavior and the Social Environment sequence along with practice courses in either clinical or macro social work. The Special Instructor is expected to engage in teaching, service and community engagement.

* Teach a six-course load per academic year across the generalist and advanced practice curricula of the MSW and BSW programs.

* Courses may include Human Behavior in the Social Environment (HBSE) and Practice courses

* Engage in meaningful service to the program, university, profession, and broader community.

* Contribute to program development and accreditation activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

MSW from an accredited social work program, 2 years post-MSW practice experience preferably in clinical practice. Those who hold a clinical license or eligibility for a Michigan license as LMSW are especially encouraged to apply. A PhD in Social Work or doctorate in a closely related field is preferred.

A unit of the College of Arts & Sciences, the interdisciplinary Department of Sociology, Anthropology Social Work and Criminal Justice enrolls approximately 600 undergraduate majors. The BSW Program enrolls approximately 250 majors, along with over 160 MSW students.
