School of Nursing Academic Advisor

Position Purpose

Provide proactive, student-centered academic advising to pre-nursing and current students supporting their academic, personal, and professional development. The part-time Academic Adviser will manage a caseload of students and will have a role in retention initiatives at the department and university-wide level.

• Develop academic plans and course selection with pre-nursing students and current students.
• Interpret transfer credits and evaluate prerequisite completion.
• Provide guidance on nursing admission requirements, degree requirements and academic policies.
• Maintain and update student records in Degree Works, Argos, Trac Cloud, BANNER and BDM.
• Participate in recruitment events to promote the nursing program to prospective students.
• Assist with first-year, transfer and nursing-specific orientations.

• Master’s of Counseling program or Masters of Education in Higher Education Leadership program or related field/program.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• One year of experience in academic counseling or advising.
• Knowledge of admission and registration practices.
