Position: Graduate Teaching Assistant Nutrition Program at Oakland University

Graduate Teaching Assistant Nutrition Program

The Nutrition Program has a Graduate Assistantship available for the  academic year. Graduate Teaching Assistants have a primary responsibility in a teaching capacity. They provide approximately 10 hours of service per week over the course of a semester. These responsibilities include assisting in the refinement and implementation of lecture and lab activities for Sarah Martin. The majority of duties will be in NTR 4300, Food service Management;

NTR 2700, Introduction to Food Science; and NTR 2750, Introduction to Culinary Skills. The courses will be taught in fall 2026 and winter 2027. The GA will be required to attend all lectures in‑person labs for NTR 4300 and NTR 2750 to assist with the weekly labs, including set‑up and clean‑up, and grading assignments as needed. Candidates will be required to grocery shop each week and transport groceries to Rochester High School before lab during the Winter 2027.

As such, the candidates must be available as follows:
Fall 2026 (Wednesday 10am – 2pm) and Winter 2027 (Wednesday 3:00pm–7:15pm). The GA may also assist with other nutrition courses, lead a lab, lecture or discussion section, participate in curriculum development meetings, and other activities to support the nutrition program and faculty. A background in nutrition and culinary skills (e.g., having taken NTR 2500, NTR 2700, NTR 2750, EXS 4030, WHP 4000/4030, or similar) is preferred.

A first‑year graduate student who can continue working in the 2027‑2028 academic year is desired.

Interested students must submit a resume and a cover letter and undergraduate transcripts outlining their interest and experiences related to this position and project. Qualifications

Graduate Assistants must be fully admitted and enrolled as a full‑time student (at least 8 credit minimum) for each semester of their appointment and maintain full‑time status for the entire year in a graduate program. Graduate coursework and/or research must contribute directly to the satisfaction of Oakland's degree requirements. Graduate assistants must have and maintain good academic standing (3.0 grade point average).

Tuition

Tuition (four credits per semester or a total of 8 credits) will be compensated. Any additional credits and class fees, including books, will be the responsibility of the student.

Compensation

This position pays $15 per hour. Student will receive a pay check (via direct deposit if desired) on the last business day of each month for the duration of the assistantship.
