Position: Peer Tutor - Engineering Courses at Oakland University

Position Overview

The Academic Success Center in collaboration with the School of Engineering and Computer Science is seeking Peer Tutors who will assist fellow students in understanding and mastering SECS-related course material,
beginning in the Fall 2026 semester
. Peer Tutors provide academic support, clarify concepts, and help students develop effective study strategies.

We are currently hiring for:

  • EGR
    • 1200, 1400, 2400, 2500, 2600, 2800
  • MTH
    • 1441, 1554, 1555
  • PHY 1510, 1520
  • CHM 1440

If you have OU undergraduate experience in an Engineering course and one or more of the above disciplines, apply today!

  • Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to learn
  • Conduct one-on-one and group tutoring sessions
  • Provide strategies to enhance understanding of course material
  • Utilize active listening to identify students' needs
Additional Information
  • Shifts are determined by subject/course need and the tutor's course schedule.
  • Hours are scheduled during the range of:
    Monday through Thursday 10am 6pm and Fridays 10am - 3pm.
  • This position will begin in September 2026.
  • Must complete 10 hours of paid training, achieving Level 1 CRLA Certification by the end of First Academic Year employed.
Qualifications
  • Must be a currently enrolled OU student in a degree-seeking program with three or more listed courses completed at OU.
  • Second-semester freshman standing or higher
  • Minimum 3.7 GPA (A-) in the course(s) tutored
  • Adequate demonstration of time/task management skills
  • Obtain a minimum of one recommendation form from a current OU faculty member. Faculty can access and complete the form using the following link: OU Faculty Recommendation Form
