ASC Peer Tutor - Music

The Academic Success Center, in collaboration with the School of Music, Theater and Dance, is seeking a Peer Tutor to assist fellow students in understanding and mastering the course material for Music Theory and Aural Skills,
beginning in the Fall 2026 semester
. Peer Tutors provide academic support, clarify concepts, and help students develop effective study strategies.

We are currently hiring for:

• MUS 1211, 1212, 1213, 1214, 1215, 2212, 2213, 2214, 2215

• Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to learn
• Conduct appointment-based tutoring in Varner Hall.
• Provide strategies to enhance understanding of course material
• Utilize active listening to identify students' needs

• This position is for appointment tutoring. Tutors offer a regular weekly set of appointments. If a student schedules, then the tutor works. If no appointments are made, the tutor may use the time as they wish.
• Shifts are determined by subject/course need and the tutor's course schedule.
• Hours are scheduled during the range of:
  Monday through Thursday 10am- 6pm and Fridays 10am - 3pm.
• This position will begin in September 2026.
• All hired applicants must complete 10 hours of paid training, achieving Level 1 CRLA Certification by the end of the first academic year employed.

• Must be a currently enrolled OU student in a degree-seeking program with three or more listed courses completed at OU.
• Second-semester freshman standing or higher
• Minimum 3.7 GPA (A-) in the course(s) tutored
• Adequate demonstration of time/task management skills
• Obtain a minimum of one recommendation form from a current OU faculty member. Faculty can access and complete the form using the following link: OU Faculty Recommendation Form
