Title:
Part Time Reading Interventionist
Ideally the candidate can work 5 days a week, partial days
Reports to:Building Principal/Head of School Job Goal:
The Reading Interventionist fulfills the mission of Holy Family Regional School by working with identified students to improve overall reading achievement and growth in specific reading skills using a variety of strategies. Growth is to be measured with regular progress monitoring via school-approved programs. The Reading Interventionist provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student growth and achievement in reading.
HFRS primarily utilizes the UFLI intervention program along with other strategies in the intervention room and regular classroom.
- Provides targeted interventions in small groups to small groups of students identified as needing additional reading support outside of the classroom.
- Consults frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading instruction using progress-monitoring as a base.
- Helps teachers identify reading strengths and weaknesses of students and match those skills with appropriate techniques and materials to use in the classroom.
- Works extensively with Tier 2 and Tier 3 students to help them improve specific reading skills such as, but not limited to, letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, phonics application, fluency, and comprehension strategies.
- Assists with school wide benchmark testing (Star Renaissance) three times a year as both a support to proctoring teachers and as needed with individual students.
- Assists with additional standardized testing as deemed necessary to guide intervention instruction or requested by school administration.
- Collaborates with school administration, classroom teacher, parents, and the LEA (Rochester Community Schools) for potential special education evaluations when a learning disability is suspected.
- Demonstrates gains in student performance through progress monitoring and reports all student data to school administration, classroom teachers, and parents as requested.
- Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual learning needs.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning for students benefiting from reading intervention.
- Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and the other reading interventionist to create an intervention schedule that maximizes the number of students receiving support.
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
- Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school.
- Abides by the HFRS Confidentiality Policy.
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
- Master’s Degree with a reading endorsement (preferred)
- Bachelor’s Degree plus three years of reading intervention experience at the elementary level
- Certification or familiarity in a reading intervention program based on the Science of Reading
- Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
- Knowledge of the Science of Reading
- Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior
- Knowledge and skill in universal testing instruments
- Knowledge and skill in progress monitoring and using data to drive interventions
- Able to positively collaborate with all stakeholders
