Position Summary

As an Elementary Resource Special Education Teacher, you will plan specialized instruction, adapt the general curriculum, and serve as an Individualized Education Program (IEP) case manager. They collaborate with general education staff to support students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment, track data for progress monitoring, and communicate regularly with families. Your goal will be to support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of students with disabilities by providing individualized instruction and collaborating with school staff and families to ensure students have access to and make progress in the general education curriculum within the least restrictive environment.

Key Duties

Requirements
  • Provides direct instruction in a variety of learning environments, staying current on best practices and collaborating with curriculum consultants to ensure specialized instruction aligns with district-wide academic standards and promotes student growth.
  • Facilitates case management services for students eligible for special education, including developing IEPs and related documents, and maintaining accurate records to ensure implementation with fidelity.
  • Conducts formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and determine eligibility for services.
  • Communicates regularly with parents and guardians to address questions and concerns related to students’ programs and services, and partners with families to ensure they are informed and engaged in their child’s progress, IEP goals, and support strategies.
  • Collaborates with general education teachers and staff to ensure appropriate instruction and support inclusive practices in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
  • Utilizes technology for record-keeping and to support instructional access and student learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Special Education Administrator or Building Principal.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in area of Responsibility.
