Job Title:

Engineering Technician – eBike Prototyping and Test Job Description

This role focuses on building, testing, and maintaining prototype eBike components and complete vehicle systems. You will work hands‑on with bikes, electrical and mechanical systems, and diagnostic tools to support engineers in developing and improving eBike products. The position involves troubleshooting complex issues, documenting test results, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to drive design improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Build, instrument, and test prototype eBike components and complete vehicle systems.
  • Maintain and service test bikes to ensure they are safe, reliable, and ready for testing.
  • Support engineers in diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and software‑related issues on eBike systems.
  • Troubleshoot electronics using electrical measurement tools such as oscilloscopes, CAN analyzers, multimeters, power analyzers, torque tools, and data logging systems.
  • Install, modify, and repair wiring harnesses and related electrical connections on prototype hardware.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings to support builds, modifications, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Document procedures, test setups, findings, and build configurations with high attention to detail.
  • Maintain lab equipment, test fixtures, tools, and work spaces in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to support development and testing activities.
  • Provide clear feedback to engineering on design improvements based on testing results and observed component behavior.
  • Apply strong mechanical intuition to recognize proper fit, torque, and component behavior when working with fasteners, bearings parts.
  • Build, modify, and repair prototype hardware while following a methodical and safety‑focused approach.
  • Use problem‑solving skills to identify root causes of issues and propose practical solutions.
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrated mechanical intuition, including the ability to recognize proper fit, torque, and component behavior when working with fasteners, bearings, gears, and other precision mechanical parts.
  • Hands‑on experience working on bicycles, including assembly, adjustment, and repair.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, torque tools, and data logging systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings accurately.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a methodical, safety‑focused approach to diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and software‑related issues.
  • Comfort working with and modifying prototype hardware, including building, repairing, and refining components and systems.
  • Solid problem‑solving skills and the ability to work through complex technical challenges.
  • Experience working with electronics and basic electrical measurement tools such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
  • Ability to work effectively in a lab environment and follow detailed procedures and documentation practices.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Professional experience working on bicycles in a shop, lab, or product development environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with eBike systems, including motors, controllers, batteries, sensors, and firmware interfaces.
  • Familiarity with CAN Bus or other communication protocols used in embedded and vehicle systems.
  • Experience with battery technologies and battery management systems (BMS).
  • Prototyping skills such as soldering, crimping, machining, or 3D printing.
  • Knowledge of firmware flashing tools or basic embedded system debugging techniques.
  • Experience working with embedded systems and firmware in a testing or development context.
  • Interest in bikes and eBikes, including a desire to work closely with bike hardware and related technologies.
Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role based in a dedicated lab and workshop environment, reporting to the Rochester office. Core working hours are approximately 8:00 a.m.…
