The following duties are considered essential to the position. Qualified individuals must have the ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform the following:

• Prepare, cook, and serve meals in accordance with established menus, standardized recipes, and resident dietary requirements
• Accommodate special diets as ordered, including but not limited to diabetic, low-sodium, mechanical soft, puréed, and texture-modified diets
• Ensure meals are served in a timely, courteous, and resident-focused manner that promotes dignity and choice
• Maintain strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and infection control standards in compliance with local health department regulations, OSHA, CDC guidelines, and Cardinal Senior Living standards
• Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, temperature control, and rotation in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, equipment, and food service areas at all times
• Collaborate with leadership, care staff, and dining services to support resident needs, preferences, and special events
• Assist with menu planning, food preparation, and execution of holiday meals, themed dining events, and resident celebrations
• Report safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or supply needs promptly to the appropriate supervisor
• Attend and participate in staff meetings, projects, committees, special events, and mandatory in-service training
• Complete required competency evaluations and ongoing training as required by state regulations or as assigned by their immediate supervisor, HR Director, or Executive Director
• Perform other duties as assigned

Specific education, certification, and licensure:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous cooking or food service experience in senior living, healthcare, or institutional settings preferred
• Knowledge of therapeutic diets and food modifications for older adults preferred
• Serv Safe certification preferred or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe

These are the abilities typically required to perform the job:

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions associated with food preparation
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, regulated environment
• Ability to maintain professionalism, patience, and a resident-first mindset
