GENERAL

SUMMARY:

Provides leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality, compassionate patient care in a fast-paced Clinical Decision Unit environment. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide, delegate, supervise, and document care and teaching of patients and families. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team to facilitate rapid clinical decision-making and optimal patient disposition.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform rapid, comprehensive patient assessments upon arrival to the Clinical Decision Unit, identifying acute conditions and determining appropriate level of care and monitoring requirements.
  • Collaborate with physicians and advanced practice providers to develop and implement efficient diagnostic and treatment plans that support timely patient disposition decisions.
  • Monitor and reassess patients during their stay in the Clinical Decision Unit, recognizing changes in clinical status and communicating findings promptly to the care team.
  • Facilitate clear communication of clinical findings, patient progress, and disposition recommendations to patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care transitions.
  • Implement evidence-based nursing interventions and protocols specific to Clinical Decision Unit operations, including observation protocols, diagnostic support, and patient education.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and variance analysis to optimize Clinical Decision Unit workflows and enhance patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and clinical decision-making processes to support continuity of care and regulatory compliance.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

  • BSN preferred. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and hospital personnel.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES

REQUIRED:

  • Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing. Health care provider certification (BLS).
