GENERAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED).
  • Physical ability to perform assigned job duties such as climb ladders, lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time.
  • Must possess a Chauffeur Driver’s License.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Possesses a general working knowledge of building maintenance, carpentry, roofing, electricity, mechanical functions and refrigeration.
  • Ability to work with computers.
  • Certified Pool Operator/Aquatics Facilities Operator (CPO/AFO) Certification preferred.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors correctly.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years maintenance experience.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance required.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports To: Facilities and Grounds Manager

Supervises: None

Job Goal: Maintenance of all properties owned by the Rochester Community Schools in an efficient, economical manner.

Performance Responsibilities

Architectural/Building Envelope:

  • Install large/heavy wall mounted equipment
  • Repair/replace floor and wall tile

Doors/Frames/Hardware:

  • Repair/replace window hardware
  • Adjust door closers
  • Troubleshoot card access systems
  • Troubleshoot café/gym wall

Roofing:

  • Inspect roofing
  • Remove debris from roof/drains/gutters
  • Troubleshoot leaks

Electrical:

  • Change light switches/receptacles
  • Troubleshoot power issues

Plumbing:

  • Power snake drains
  • Repair water fountains
  • Repair sinks and/or faucets
  • Repair/install flush valves

General:

  • Is able to determine what is needed to complete assigned tasks and skillfully and efficiently uses time and resources to execute those tasks.
  • Is available during work shift for any work assignment as deemed necessary to resolve maintenance and/or operational problems within the District.
  • Possesses knowledge of safe work habits and practices same.
  • Reports to the proper authority any unsafe or dangerous conditions existing on school properties or within the buildings and any irregular use of buildings and grounds.
  • Presents a record of work accomplished daily.
  • Reports in and out to the proper person (building secretary or administrator) when work is to be performed within that building or on the grounds.
  • Continually attempts to increase his/her skills and is knowledgeable about updated equipment and methods by attending school, seminars, etc.
  • Participates on emergency work crews whenever available.
  • Obtains work order data via the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Trains Custodial Support Technicians in maintenance and repairs
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Facilities and Grounds Manager.
