This position is an Oakland University Campus Maintenance and Trades – MEA / NEA position. The incumbent will be represented by the MEA / NEA.
This position will remain open a minimum of five (5) working days. External applicants may be considered. Qualified bargaining unit members will receive interviews and initial consideration.
Position PurposeUnder general supervision, lays out and performs finished and rough carpentry work on construction, alterations and maintenance, and performs other tasks related to facilities maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications- High school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- State of Michigan residential builder’s license or completion of Detroit Carpentry Joint Apprentice School with journeyman card. Furnish proof of at least six years continuous full-time experience in the carpentry trade at the journeyman level.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the carpentry trade.
- Experience in layout, print reading, construction techniques and knowledge of construction materials and applications.
- Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment of the structural maintenance trade.
- Ability to perform work requiring frequent standing, reaching, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing on a ladder and lifting in order to perform various carpentry maintenance and repair tasks; frequent lifting requiring the execution of up to 60 pounds to move and use tools, equipment, and the application of carpentry procedures.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the University by the University’s insurance carrier.
- Knowledge of commercial roofing systems and proper repair methods.
- Ability to perform masonry/concrete repairs.

Unless otherwise required by an applicable collective bargaining agreement, all minimum, additional and desired qualifications are preferred, but qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole and exclusive discretion may be considered.
