Lab Assistant / Tissue Registry Clerk
The Tissue Registry Clerk is responsible for performing various clerical and processing duties, including the filing of tissue (both fresh and formalin fixed), glass slides, and paraffin blocks. Additional responsibilities include maintaining supply inventory, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning. The role involves working with computer information systems daily and requires the handling of fresh and formalin fixed tissue, organs, and amputations for archival purposes.
Attention to detail and adherence to strict safety requirements for handling hazardous chemicals and infectious agents are essential.
- Retrieve pathology glass slides from file drawers, count and document the number of slides pulled, place them in trays, and maintain organization.
- Document volumes in a spreadsheet.
- Refile slides in original drawers after digital scanning and update documents.
- Organize by sequential number and identify if out of sequence.
- Perform data entry in Excel, ensuring data is documented accurately.
- Remain productive with repetitive tasks.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Background in science or 1-2 years of medical experience
- Experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations, and other office equipment
- Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling
- Organizational and prioritization skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in written form
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $23.00/hr.
