SummaryMortenson is currently seeking an experienced Category Manager I – Consumables & Indirect, responsible for developing, implementing, and managing sourcing strategies for consumables & indirect materials and services categories. This role focuses on optimizing costs, quality, and delivery while improving Supply Chain efficiencies and maintaining supplier relationships. Responsibilities also include managing the consumables purchasing team and ensuring the timely and cost‑effective delivery of materials to meet timelines and requirements.

Responsibilities- Develop and implement Category Strategy for Assigned Indirect Categories (~50%)
- Identify and engage with internal stakeholders across operations and business services to capture category requirements.
- Assess potential opportunities for categories including spend segmentation, category maturity, cost drivers, and supply market analysis.
- Develop Sourcing Strategy for categories detailing projects, sourcing levers, timing, resources, and expected benefits.
- Adapt the strategy as business, market, and economic environments change.
- Support Annual Category Reviews including updated projects, metrics, strategy, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Manage relationships with key Suppliers at the Leadership level.
- Conduct supplier business reviews.
- Monitor supplier’s quality and delivery performance.
- Leverage supplier relationship to assist buyers with expedites as needed.
- Be responsible for category financial results for assigned categories. Develop strategies to achieve financial and category initiative goals.
- Supply Chain Operations for Consumables Category (~50%)
- Responsible for managing and implementing short and long‑term sourcing strategies to achieve business objectives for the Consumables category.
- Execute sourcing initiatives in alignment with strategic plans and supply chain strategies.
- Negotiate and maintain contracts and agreements with key suppliers and service providers, ensuring quality, reliability, and competitiveness.
- Establish strong and effective relationships with key suppliers (existing and new) to ensure quality, cost, delivery, and productivity.
- Collaborate across all business functions to formulate, implement, and execute sourcing and continuous improvement strategies.
- Monitor and analyze industry trends and lead the implementation of best practices for supply chain.
- People Leadership
- Lead the work of Consumables procurement team, while establishing strategies for sourcing and supply chain with process excellence focus.
- Foster teamwork, collaboration, and integration within Supply Chain and across Mortenson to provide cohesive solutions and ensure effective delivery of strategy.
- Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance.
- Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
- Champion superior customer service by ensuring a customer‑focused approach and strong service orientation.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, construction management, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
- 8+ years of experience strategically managing Consumables category material and services spend. Experience managing other indirect categories is a plus.
- 2+ years of experience managing a team.
- Knowledge of ERP systems (such as Oracle) and capabilities.

$102,000 – $153,000 (location adjustments: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%; Seattle, WA and Portland, OR – 10%; Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
