Responsibilities

The strategist provides consultative and analytical services with a strong focus on government policy, contributing to strategies for sites, shields or departments and other corporate priorities both independently and under the direction of a manager, director or division chair. This role tracks legislative and regulatory developments, translates policy shifts into strategic implications and helps leaders anticipate how government action affects Mayo Clinic priorities.

Responsible for ensuring deliverables are met and outcomes achieved for the assigned projects. Partners across multidisciplinary teams to drive innovation, challenge the status quo and implement solutions and programs to advance priorities. Will provide strategic direction through analysis and insights to drive strategic choices and the planning process in line with the long-term strategic plan, including the policy and advocacy agenda.

Supports strong customer relationships with both internal and external partners, including government and regulatory stakeholders. Serves as a change agent, championing agile ways of thinking and working to enable teams and people for success. Drives excellence in financial acumen, communication (verbal, written and presentations), business and strategic planning, performance monitoring and reporting.

Candidate must live within 100 miles of Washington, D.C. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship/we will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience, or master's degree.
• Experience in strategic intelligence, strategic planning, strategy development, government or public policy, legislative and regulatory analysis, government relations, client services, business or management consulting, project management, operations, market analysis or health care.
• Working knowledge of the federal and state legislative and regulatory process, including how health policy is developed, enacted and implemented.
• Ability to translate complex policy developments into clear strategic implications for senior leaders.
• Must demonstrate ability to handle sensitive/confidential/proprietary information.
• Strong alignment with Mayo's core values.
• Demonstrates competencies in problem-solving and systems thinking, risk taking and innovation, collaborative leadership, executive communication, navigating ambiguity, driving results and equity, inclusion and diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Direct experience in government policy, public policy or government relations, ideally within health care or an academic medical center.
