Overview

Next 150 Construction, a fully‑owned subsidiary of Gilbane Building Company, is seeking a General Construction Superintendent. The General Superintendent is responsible for overall field operations on large projects, leading a team of superintendents to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures regarding safety, scheduling, budget, quality and customer satisfaction. This role will be based in Rochester, MN.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure day‑to‑day coordination of trade contractors and their sub‑contractors results in high‑quality work that meets the approved project schedule.
  • Manage the project budget for general conditions and site services.
  • Develop, document and communicate the work plan regarding changes made in the field.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents to plan ahead and anticipate potential problems before they arise.
  • Obtain or verify that subcontractors have all necessary permits for construction purposes.
  • Verify safety compliance with all trades; act as primary safety representative in the field and enforce quality control policies.
  • Conduct maintenance and planning of work‑arounds, shutdowns and tie‑ins.
  • Establish credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, etc. by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environment.
  • Lead contractor meetings on a regular basis.
  • Oversee daily reports and documentation using Procore.
  • Create, manage, and update the project schedule; create and implement contingency plans when necessary.
  • Communicate schedule status, updates and changes to the Project Team and Trade Contractors.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage jobsite logistics.
  • Oversee the project quality plan and implement necessary changes.
  • Resolve jurisdictional disputes.
  • Track production as needed.
  • Execute self‑performing capabilities, workforce planning, and quantify material needs.
  • Handle forecasting and projecting cost of work.
  • Aid in the development of the project team.
  • Train direct reports on processes, procedures and completion of daily tasks.
  • Manage workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members.
  • Aid in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports.
Qualifications
  • Experience/

    Education:
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
    • 10–15 years of experience on a $15‑50+ million commercial/industrial construction project or multiple projects in a superintendent role.
    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong technical and communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills with ability to adapt to changing needs.
    • Team‑working ability.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Procore.
    • Knowledge of construction‑documenting, drawings, all phases of construction.
    • Proficient in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control.
    • Strong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce project safety plan.
    • Ability to create an safety first culture and maintain incident and injury free attitude.
    • Ability to supervise a project team.
    • OSHA 30‑hour certified.
  • Salary and Benefits:
    • Salary to be determined based on geographic location, skills, education, experience and internal equity.
    • Pay ranges from $130,000 – $200,000 plus benefits and retirement program.
  • Pre‑employment Requirements:
    • Qualified applicants must pass a pre‑employment substance‑abuse test.
