JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Special Education Coordinator / Special Education Teacher serves in a dual role, providing direct special education instruction and case management services while also supporting the coordination and implementation of the school's special education program. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal special education requirements, supporting due process procedures, coordinating evaluations and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and providing specialized instruction to students with disabilities.

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current Minnesota PELSB licensure in Special Education.
  • Experience in special education case management preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and federal special education laws, regulations, and due process requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Special Education Coordinator Responsibilities (0.5 FTE)
  • Support implementation of the district's special education program and ensure compliance with federal and state special education requirements.
  • Coordinate and monitor special education due process timelines and procedures.
  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and facilitating evaluation and IEP meetings.
  • Develop evaluation plans and collaborate with evaluation team members regarding eligibility determinations.
  • Review and monitor special education documentation for compliance and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to ensure timely completion of evaluations, IEPs, progress reports, and required documentation.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and consultative support to special education staff.
  • Assist with student placement discussions and service delivery planning.
  • Coordinate communication among families, staff, service providers, and administration regarding special education services.
  • Support professional development and training related to special education compliance and best practices.
  • Assist in resolving concerns and facilitating collaborative problem‑solving between families and the district.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required by the district and state agencies.
Special Education Teacher Responsibilities (0.5 FTE)
  • Provide direct special education instruction and services in accordance with students' IEPs.
  • Serve as case manager for assigned students.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and services.
  • Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress and inform instruction.
  • Prepare and maintain required special education documentation and progress reports.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive instructional practices and student success.
  • Participate in Child Study, evaluation, and IEP meetings.
  • Maintain effective communication with families regarding student progress and educational programming.
  • Establish and maintain a positive learning environment that supports student growth and achievement.
  • Maintain accurate records concerning attendance, progress monitoring, behavior, and other required educational data.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Knowledge of special education laws, due process requirements, and Minnesota special education criteria.
  • Knowledge of assessment practices, evaluation procedures, and IEP development.
  • Knowledge of instructional practices for students with disabilities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.
  • Skilled in developing collaborative relationships with staff, students, families, and service providers.
  • Ability to maintain confidential student information.
  • Proficiency in technology and electronic special education data systems.
  • Ability to analyze data and make instructional recommendations.
POSITION INFORMATION

Salary: $60,000
